The Ga-Dangme Foundation of Chicago (GDFC) - GA SEEGBE DZI GBE

Mission

The organizers of the GDFC believe that there is an important and increasing role to be played by Ga-Dangmes residing outside Ghana, in the socio-economic development and the cultural renaissance of the Ga-Dangme nation: that there is a need to create a new channel for this purpose.

With this objective in mind, the GDFC has been formed to identify opportunities for raising funds and tapping into resources in the USA , to promote and participate in the realization of this goal. It is a 501-C-3 Federal Tax exempt organization under section 501-C- (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Definition

The following words: “Ga-Dangme Foundation” shall have the following meaning, herein defined as:

• Foundation- an association represented by a body of officials charged with the responsibility of promoting and fostering the aims and objectives of this organization.
• Ga-Dangme- a person of Ga-Dangme heritage by birth, adoption, marriage, or by naturalization.

Aims and Objectives

• The GDFC is organized exclusively for charitable purposes; including, for such purposes as the distributions to other organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under section 501 C 3 of the internal revenue code, or corresponding section of any future Federal code for charitable organizations.
• No part of the net earnings of the GDFC shall inure to the benefit of or be distributable to its members, trustees, officers or other private persons, except that the GDFC shall authorize and make payments and distributions in furtherance of the goals and objectives of the Association.
• The GDFC shall not engage in any activities that are political, religious or try to influence any legislature or election of political officers or people into public office.
• Notwithstanding any other provisions of these articles, the GDFC shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (a) by a corporation exempt from Federal income tax under section 501 (C) 3 of the internal revenue code, or the corresponding section of any future Federal tax code.

Its objectives shall be

• To endeavor to identify ways and means to provide charitable assistance to needy areas and districts in the Ga-Dangme region of Ghana .
• To promote economic, cultural, educational and scientific knowledge and awareness among the Ga-Dangme people in both Ghana and the Diaspora
• To attract influential, dedicated, intelligent, resourceful and civic-minded leaders among both “organized” and “unorganized” Ga-Dangmes, who are responsive to the needs of our brethren in Ghana .
• To establish educational, scientific and cultural ties with institutions and other ethnic groups in the USA , especially the Ga-Dangme International Organization.
